CBD For Cats

If you’re a cat lover, you know some cats need a bit more TLC than others. But one thing many cats could benefit from? CBD as a safe, alternative method of alleviating some issues they may deal with.

You may be familiar with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), as it’s becoming a widely discussed topic in the CBD world. The ECS is a bodily system like the digestive system or nervous system. Components of the ECS interact with cannabinoids and are located all over the body. If you’ve been reading blogs about CBD,  you might already know the basics. For those unfamiliar, the ECS is basically three main components: endocannabinoids, endocannabinoid receptors, and enzymes. What’s truly interesting here is that CBD has a positive effect on our endocannabinoid system, which is why it’s gaining so much popularity! The precise reason behind this is something scientists are still trying to research and discover (we’ll be waiting patiently!), but the outcome is clear – CBD can benefit the endocannabinoid system.

Is CBD Safe for Cats?

The endocannabinoid system does relate to cats as well. Animals have an endocannabinoid system as well that works similarly to the one found in humans. Cats have an endocannabinoid system that’s almost exactly like ours, so consequently, it behaves a lot like ours does. That means CBD is safe for cats, and it may make a great alternative to other supplements recommended for them. It helps that our CBD products consist of 100% natural ingredients – meaning that they have an abundance of holistic benefits for your cat. Our CBD Pet Oil is made with salmon oil for a taste they’ll love, too!

How CBD Might Benefit Cats

The FDA doesn’t recognize CBD as medicine and the same goes for your pet- it is not medicine. That being said, there are quite a few things studies have found CBD might be helpful with in pets. If used according to directions & veterinarian recommendations, CBD has the potential to aid your cat in leading a healthier & happier life. Even though scientific research on this topic is limited, what experience can confirm is that CBD products created specifically for cats may help them with stress and agitation, digestion and/or appetite, and might even give them a shinier coat.

Always speak to a veterinarian about giving your cat CBD.

Best CBD Products for Cats?

CBD products for cats are available in many different forms, most common are oils, tinctures, chews, and treats. Cats can be finicky when it comes to taking anything like a supplement or medicine. Luckily, many CBD products for cats are available in a flavor they’ll love! For example, our CBD Oil for Pets is made with salmon oil so it tastes just right.

How much CBD for 1 dose?

Because cats are so much smaller in size and weight than humans, it makes sense that they also need much smaller doses.  Cats can use even smaller doses of CBD than many dogs would, so again, a small dose is the way to go here. The average recommended dose for cats is between 2-4 mg of CBD, but again, you should ask a veterinarian for more precise dosing recommendations.

Choosing CBD Products for your Cat

As mentioned earlier, most CBD products on the market likely contain completely natural ingredients, but that’s not the only thing to pay attention to. While we consider CBD products to be safe for cats, you may want to use more caution when buying CBD for your cat, especially through online shopping. The most important thing to look for is third party laboratory tests. These ensure that the product has less than 0.3% THC. Another thing to check is whether the CBD product shows a positive result for microorganisms or heavy metals. If not, then it’s probably a product worth purchasing, and will most likely be fine for your cat to use.

If you’re thinking about using CBD for your feline friend, hopefully this blog has answered any questions you might have! CBD products may be worth trying for a number of different reasons. If you’re ever unsure, talk to your veterinarian .

Can we take a second to acknowledge the bacon in the room? I mean, my dog does every time I pull out the bacon-flavored CBD treats I got from you online. These are great before going to the vet, getting a bath, and anything that causes him a lot of anxiety.

I foster animals who are dropped off at the shelters or found abandoned and need personal care. I use your CBD for pets products when one seems agitated or worked up for no apparent reason to provide them with a little calm in their storm. Thank you for being there for my fosters when they need it.

I wanted something for my cat because he’s skittish and always seems to be on edge. I have anxiety, and it’s no way to spend every minute of every day. So I got him some of your salmon oil-based pet CBD, and he loves it. He doesn’t seem to be quite as on edge, so he’s resting a lot better!

My cat is older. Sheba was my cat growing up, and now she isn’t as playful as she used to be. Her age is catching up to her, and her joints are giving her fits. I read your article about how cats have endocannabinoid systems like we do. I have family that uses CBD for joint discomfort, so I bought some for Sheba. She isn’t a spring chicken (or chasing any), but she does seem to be in a better mood and moving around more.
